Thoughts on Saturday Workshop

The teacher was talking about Melville's use of a chimney as a metaphor for the male phallus in one of his (Melville's) short stories. A person sneezed and I turned my head towards the sneeze and saw a person with snot on most of their face and dripping from their nose. The person quickly applied a napkin to the affected area. I had met the person two or three weeks earlier at the New School MFA bar and he had claimed to have read all of the major plays of Shakespeare for fun. Then the person got up and went to the bathroom. As far as I could tell, I was the only person who saw this. I looked back at the teacher and felt amazed at how much his ear seemed to resemble his mouth. His neck moved when he talked. He had tattoos on his hands. He mentioned the Galapagos Islands and someone raised their hand and said "Darwin's Theory of Relativity." I couldn't stop thinking about how the Miami Heat defense repeatedly left Ray Allen wide open when they played the Boston Celtics last Thursday. Ray Allen shot 7 for 9 from behind the arc. The class ended when the fire alarm went off.
